4 Places to Visit in Puerto Rico

During the last month of my Disney Internship my roommate and I decided that we wanted to visit somewhere new. At first it was the Bahamas, but we couldn’t quite get things to line up, so we decided to visit Puerto Rico. We wanted to see if the Isla del Encanto lived up to it’s name. Overall we had a fun time, and there were definitely some memorable moments, like meeting a complete stranger from my home state and riding with them to El Yunque National Forest. If you ever find yourself in PR, I recommend visiting the forest as well as a few other places. We had planned to rent a car in PR once we arrived, but the prices and the fact that none of us wanted to drive in a different place, left us riding the bus to most places. However, in one of outings we met these two gals and they offered to allow us to ride along!

El Yunque National Forest. It was about an hour away from Old San Juan. As you get closer to the start of the hike, you begin to be surround the beautiful forest. Along the hike there are pools of water, we stopped at the two main pools, but if you keep climbing you can reach other spots that are less crowded.

The Forts. Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo San Cristóbal located in Old San Juan are worth exploring. At the time, which was several years ago, it costs $7 to entry to both of the forts for 7 days.

Culebra. With it’s white sand and blue waters I was convinces I wanted to go as soon as I saw the photos. Unfortunately, I was not able to make it because it takes a bit more planning. You need to drive to the ferry and you can’t buy ferry tickets in advance (at that time). That means that if you get there late or it is a busy day then you may miss your chance to jump onboard.

Catedral de San Juan Bautista. This cathedral is known to be the second oldest catholic church in America, so even if you are not religious it is worth the visit while you are visiting, for the history.
